Scott Maslen, known for his tough-guy role in EastEnders, was involved in an altercation with a dog-walker who has a disability over dog waste in a London park.
Michael Kelly, a 55-year-old man with multiple sclerosis (MS), has alleged that the actor, 53, injured him during the incident, claiming that Maslen broke his eye socket.
In response to the confrontation, Kelly reportedly told Maslen, « You’re not on EastEnders now. »
Both men fell to the ground as their argument escalated into a physical fight, with Kelly sustaining injuries that required medical attention.
According to insiders close to Maslen, who plays Jack Branning and has been depicted fighting numerous characters on the show, his version of events downplayed the incident, referring to it as merely a “scuffle.”
Maslen maintained that the fight was not initiated by him while he was out walking his labrador, Chewbacca.
Kelly, who has a four-year-old labradoodle named Ned, has cooperated with law enforcement as they investigate the altercation.
Kelly described his condition, stating, “I sometimes use a wheelchair and need a stick, but I try to stay active. Walking my dog provides me with the exercise I need.”
He recounted, “I was at Regent’s Park with Ned, who was running around. While I was on the phone, I heard a man yelling at me. At first, I ignored it, continuing my conversation with my son-in-law.”
Eventually, the shouting became hard to disregard.
Kelly explained, “Ned had an accident, and I couldn’t pick it up right away since I was distracted. The man became infuriated.”
He described Maslen’s attire at the time, noting, “He was clad in headphones, a shooting jacket, a green cap, and rain boots. Of course, I planned to pick up after my dog, but he didn’t let me.”
Kelly recalled, “He hurled insults at me, and I told him I’d do it in my own time. It was absurd. He shouted, ‘Who do you think you are?’ continuing to call me names. I was taken aback but responded, ‘You’re the mug.’”
Physical Altercation
As the argument intensified, Kelly claimed it transformed into a brawl on the ground.
He reported, “A female dog-walker yelled that she would call the police.”
“As I tried to get up, I recognized the man and remarked, ‘You’re on EastEnders.’ I managed to collect my thoughts and said, ‘This isn’t EastEnders. This is real life.’”
Kelly stated he took two pictures at the scene.
Afterward, he drove back to his daughter’s house in Islington, North London, bleeding from his face and head.
He explained, “I went to the hospital where they stitched my nose and treated various cuts on my head. I also suffered from whiplash. The doctors informed me that I had fractured my eye socket. It’s incredible. I’ve been referred to an eye specialist for further treatment, with another appointment scheduled in eight weeks.”
Friends of Maslen indicated that he confronted Kelly after witnessing him neglect to clean up after his dog.
A source commented, “The man seemed to be staring at the situation without doing anything about it. Scott asked him if he intended to pick it up or if he needed a bag.”
They claimed the argument escalated when Kelly grabbed Maslen, provoking a physical fight.
