Currently, State of Decay 3 is not available for preorder. However, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will have the opportunity to play the game for free upon its release as part of their membership benefits.
Platforms for State of Decay 3
State of Decay and State of Decay 2 were console exclusives for Xbox, in addition to being available on PC, and it is anticipated that State of Decay 3 will follow a similar distribution strategy. A developer diary from 2024, released on October 31, provided some insights into the development process and the behind-the-scenes operations of State of Decay 3. The video highlighted that while the first two games were crafted by relatively small teams, the third installment is benefiting from a significantly larger development team.
In 2022, Kotaku reported on various issues within the studio, including allegations of sexism, bullying, and employee burnout. The report suggested that Microsoft’s acquisition of Undead Labs faced challenges due to a toxic work environment and unclear direction. In response, Matt Booty from Xbox remarked, « Undead Labs has undergone many positive transformations, and we trust in the direction the team is taking with State of Decay 3, one of our most ambitious open-world projects in development. »
